The Byrne Insurance Agency, Inc. was originally established in March 1928, as the Evans-Byrne Insurance Agency and was owned by William J. Byrne and William L. Evans. Several years later, Byrne purchased Mr. Evans' interest in the agency, and became sole owner. He also purchased The Metcalfe Insurance Agency from Ms. Ferriday Byrnes, and in so doing, he acquired one of the oldest agencies in the state of Mississippi, it having been organized in 1866.

William J. Byrne, Jr., John P. Byrne, and Frank P. Byrne the sons of William J. Byrne were all associated with the firm. Currently, John P. "Johnny" Byrne, Jr. serves Byrne Insurance Agency, Inc. as president. Johnny Byrne joined the firm in 1979 after obtaining his degree in Insurance and Risk management from the University of Mississippi. He was joined in the business by his son John P. Byrne, III in January 2006, making him the fourth generation Byrne to be associated with the firm. John P. "Jack" Byrne, III is Vice President for the firm and also received his degree in Insurance and Risk management from the University of Mississippi.

Byrne Insurance Agency, Inc. currently has ten total producers, with one being in charge of the Life and Health Department. The agency employs an office staff of seven and serves southwest Mississippi and central Louisiana.
